‘Squid Game’ realness at Café Dalgona

Have you ever watched the 2021 hit Netflix Korean movie ‘Squid Game’? What was it like for you? Were you amazed with its storyline and cinematography like the majority? Or were you saddened and enraged with how it reflected real-world societal issues?

These are exactly the reasons why I was fascinated to try this catchy cafe at Lalaan, Silang, Cavite, the Café Dalgona. Last October 1, I decided to quench this curiosity and visit this well-talked-about cafe in town. From Dasmarinas City, all it takes is an almost one-hour bus ride to Olivarez-Tagaytay. The said cafe is just along the highway, making it easily accessible to the general public.

As I walked towards their entrance, I jokingly thought “Baka pagpasok ko, pagsuotin ako ng jumpsuit tapos level 1 na agad ha.” All jokes aside, I was in awe of how their interior looked like. As a fan of dim, moderately lighted places, they got me. It was just the right balance of warmth and brightness. Their furniture is minimalist and industrial, with a lot of people sitting while on their laptops, or casting with friends and workmates.

Unsurprisingly, they leverage on Korean food. I ordered their grapefruit smoothie and signature Dalgona cheesecake, just so I could experience playing the ‘Candy Game’ in the movie. The game entails the movie characters or 'players' to cut out different shapes from a honeycomb candy made of baking soda and sugar. They get shot once they fail. As expected, I broke the candy for it is too sticky. Don't worry, I did not get killed though.

However, I just find it a little too sweet for my tastebuds. If you are watching your sugar level or health, you might want to try another cafe. They are a little bit pricey, but even so, I still find them delicious.

Whether you are alone, with friends, or family, is a must-add to your bucket list. It is a nice place to hang out, study, meet, and just simply chill.  Café Dalgona is simply a wonderful spot to worthy of coming back to.
